Abstract

The design success of the art museums can be measured by the visitor’s ability to focus on the exhibits without being distracted, in addition to preserving the museum’s holdings. And for these two reasons, most of the designs of the exhibition halls depended on reducing the openings to preserve the exhibits and so that the recipient could focus on the exhibits without being distracted by the external views. Despite the success of these designs in achieving both results, this closure leaves a negative psychological impact on the visitors. Therefore, it is important to achieve an experience where the visitor feels freedom and openness, but rather interacts with it through the design of the space without distracting attention from the exhibits. By analyzing Richard Meier’s art museum designs like Ulm Stadhaus and Rachofsky house, we realize the importance of the interaction between interior architecture and its surroundings in the art museum. Finally, apply this principle as a design proposal to one of the Nachar Museum halls.
