Abstract

The research deals with the role of Harlem in the American plastic movement. It sheds light on the movement from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries since the American painters have traditionally dealt with the European Works until the emergence of Hudson River School. Its artists were influenced by Naturalism and subsequently adopted the ideasof American Impressionism. The emergence of the Ashcan school rejected all the above schools and adopted the themes of American daily life; all this has ended with the dominance of modernist artists.  With the rise of abstract expressionism, later, the regional movement rose against modernity, on the other hand, Harlem was formed of a large group of artists. Harlem group artists were from African origins and used the African culture, they combined it with modernism; this group has produced many artworks. In this paper the researcher’s interest is the plastic aspect of the movement.
