شهد مطلع ٢٠٢٠ انتشار وباء فیروس کورونا الذی هدد العالم اجمع، مما اضطر سکان العالم الی البقاء فی منازلهم -الحجر الصحی-للحد من انتشار الوباء. أصبح ممارسة مختلف انشطة الحیاة من المنزل، مما أثر على حیز العمارة الداخلیة من حیث الشکل والوظیفة، إلی جانب أثرها على صحة الإنسان الفسیولوجیة. جاء موضوع البحث لیتناول الحلول التصمیمة المتاحة وفقا لتعلیمات منظمة الصحة العالمیة من وجهة نظر مصممی العمارة الداخلیة، بما یواکب دعم خطة الدولة فی الابتکار والتطویر بمدن الجیل الرابع.
تعتبر أولویات مرحلة ما بعد فیروس کورونا المستجد، إعادة تصمیم حیزات العمارة الداخلیة تصمیما بیئیا مستدام، سواء للحیزات القائمة منها أو بالمشروعات الجدیدة. تترکز الحلول التصمیمیة المطروحة بالبحث للفراغات المشترکة فی الاستخدام وأیضا الفراغات العامة استعدادا الی الموجة الثانیة من الوباء والحد من انتشار الفیروس، من خلال تفعیل استخدام التقنیات الرقمیة التی تعمل على استغلال الموارد البیئیة ومواجهة التحدیات التصمیمیة المعماریة بما یواکب التطورات المستقبلیة.
