SHAPING THE FUTURE OF RESEARCH IN ART, ARCHITECTURE, AND SPATIAL DESIGN FIELDS
The purpose of this invited editorial article is to contribute an inclusive insight into some of key aspects of arts-based research and methodological approaches in architectural and spatial design research. Following ontological and epistemological interpretations, the article is conceptual and involves critical analysis which is based on reviewing and categorizing classical literature while highlighting substantial number of contributions in relevant research developed over the past five decades. Premised on three philosophical positions—positivism, anti-positivism, and emancipationist— a discussion on arts-based research as a form of qualitative inquiry and the associated trilogy of art, craft, and knowledge making was instigated. Six frames of reference were identified: systematic, computational, managerial, psychological, person-environment type-a and person-environment type-b. Technically oriented research (TOR) and conceptually driven research (CDR) were categorized as perspectives of inquiry and were scrutinized together with their developmental aspects. Whilst the article is a brief reflection on some of the key contributions in this edition of JAARS, it captures an understanding of arts-based research, architectural and spatial design research, and their essential qualities. and can be viewed as an enabling mechanism by which researchers can identify the unique particularities of their research and the way in which it is pursued.

BUILDINGS DESIGN INTEGRATION WITH GEOTHERMAL ENERGY SYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES AND AIR CONDITIONING APPLICATIONS
Nowadays, global warming and thermal islands in modern cities are spending much energy on heating and cooling spaces. Geothermal energy is a sustainable technique for space air-conditioning. Therefore, the (GSHPs) are increasingly interested in their expressive capability to lessen fossil fuel depletion and accordingly; decrease greenhouse emissions. Meanwhile, geothermal energy could be employed either direct utilization or electricity generation, which depends on the enthalpy resources chemistry and temperature. Recently, direct utilization has varied significantly, and there are several methods available for temperatures typically ranging from 4°C up to 80°C. (Lund J.W., 2012) This paper poses a comprehensive literature review of heat pump technologies by utilizing the ground source for cooling and heating applications to achieve human thermal comfort. Subsequently, propose the influence factors of the scheme components that would undoubtedly reflect on the optimal design of the building. As a result, achieve precisely an integrated building.

THE EFFECTIVE ROLE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING BASIC EDUCATION FACILITIES IN EGYPT
Building societies is based on education in all its forms, stages and effectiveness in the behaviors and lives of individuals, the completion of the role of both basic education stage and role of sustainable development processes requires the preparation of the educational environment to achieve their respective goals. So, we need to have a sustainable school building. Therefore, the research aims to promote the idea of a sustainable school by identifying the main terms related to education projects for sustainable development, and these are some of the most important factors for success of preparing the sustainable school, finally reach a set of criteria and standards to evaluate the sustainable school, and a set of evaluation results of some study cases and comparison among them in order to check with sustainable environmental assessment standards. This allows for the formulation of design and planning guidelines, which supports and promotes the idea of a sustainable school.

IMPLEMENTING SUSTAINABILITY IN HISTORICAL BUILDING AS A WAY OF REUSING - CASE STUDY: SULTANA MALAK’S PALACE, HELIOPOLIS, EGYPT
Each country is known by its architectural identity, so it is alarming when this identity is vanished, destroyed, reused inappropriately, or abandoned with no use. Egypt faces a great problem in efficiently reusing historical buildings. This paper aims to implement sustainability in historical buildings to cope with our requirements for healthy buildings, to preserve its aesthetic value, as well as being an expression of Egyptian sustainable identity. Regarding covid-19 pandemic, the paper’s goal is to apply sustainable retrofits to historical buildings by utilizing passive ways, represented in using the double height ceiling, long windows, wind capture and to ventilate the building without using AC. The simulation uses the ‘design builder’ program as a software, for producing a methodology to implement sustainability in historical buildings.

Exploring Andragogic Strategies in an Interior Architecture Studio
New design andragogic strategies require different interior architecture settings to accommodate a new educational delivery. hence, learning settings are decreasingly formal timetabled classroom-based and increasingly collaborative and socially peer to peer oriented. The literature review reveals that the most recent comprehensive andragogy is interactive collaborative learning that can be achieved by live projects and vertical studios in interior architecture and across disciplines. The method of research is an exploratory comparative case study in the form of a one-day five hours workshop with aim to assess the outcome of two interior architecture vertical studios in different educational settings (physical and virtual). analysis of outcome is based on behaviour mapping of the students at work, a qualitative description of their selected setting layout and their opinion on the workshop. In conclusion, a graphical model illustrates the idea that together, andragogic strategies, collaborative activities and supportive educational settings optimize the educational process.

BIOMIMICRY CONCEPT FROM INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE VIEW
Biomimicry is one of the relatively contemporary concepts with substantial success. The scientific community has numerous academic studies and practical application based on biomimicry with varying degrees of participation. Despite the limited usage of biomimicryby architecture and interior architecture as compared to other fields, architectureand interior architecture have recognized features as the direct link with human and the powerful impact to demonstrate messages from nature. This paper aims to make biomimicry concept more intelligible to interior architecture interested parties, through exploring some essential points about how the biomimicry works. The research includes terminologies about biomimicry and some other related fields, concepts of biomimicry, some expressive applications in the field of architecture and interior architecture, models of direct and indirect nature's inspiration, biomimicry between form and function, the relation between biomimicry and environmental compatibility and protection, thus distinguishing cases with practical details about how biomimicry generates new ideas and encourages creativity.

DESIGN SOLUTIONS FOR INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE POST CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
The beginning of 2020 the Coronavirus spread threatened the whole world. The world's population forced to stay at homes - quarantine - to limit the spread of the epidemic. All our daily life practice became from home, this affects the interior space in shape, function, and its impact on human physiological health. The research discusses the design solutions according to the instructions of World Health Organization from the view of interior designers and supports the State’s plan innovation and development in the fourth-generation cities. The priorities of the post-Coronavirus phase are to redesign environmentally sustainable interior spaces for existing or new ones. The research focuses on the design solutions for the shared and public spaces, to get ready for the second wave of the pandemic, thus, limiting its spread by the usage of digital technologies that exploit our environmental resources and face the architectural design challenges in future developments.

THE USE OF HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURE IN INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCES USING THE 3D PROJECTION MAPPING
The research revolves around the digital revolution and its use in presentations through 3D projection of architectural objects and buildings with pre-defined dimensions using optical projection devices, and optical and sound artistic effects are added to interact with the model and give it a special advantage, Aesthetic and turn it into an interactive stereoscopic. The research determines the three-dimensional projection planning technique and how to implement it and apply it to archaeological sites. It monitors some of the shows that are held with this technology, which provided the opportunity to hold huge shows in the open air which increase the demand for these places, as it can combine two features: attractions and the establishment of artistic interactive shows with a distinctive visual vision, in addition to increasing other activities that can be combined and overlapped with shows, such as shopping, tourism and competitions.

Evaluating Hybrid Learning Method as a Futuristic Approach in Teaching Different Interior Design Unit Courses
There is no doubt that Corona virus had a negative impact on most life aspects; yet, it still had some positive aspects as it paved the way to using new teaching methods in Egypt, and with the expected continuation of the pandemic to an unknown period of time. The importance of this research paper in evaluating the new method is highlighted with the announcement of using the hybrid method by the minister of higher education. This research aims to find a clear and deep understanding of the hybrid method, on how to apply it rightfully in different interior design unit courses after evaluating it as a method especially with the lack of any evidence regarding its validity as a successful teaching approach within interior design major in particular; with the purpose to test if this method could be a permanent replacement of traditional teaching techniques in the future.

THE EFFECT OF IDENTITY AND VISUAL CULTURE ON ILLUSTRATIONS
Cultural heritage is an expression of the way of life or the impact created by civilizations, which society has been able to develop and leave to later generations. Identity as an entry point of cultural heritage has an impact on visual culture, which has therefore influenced the illustrations from ancient times to the present day, as modernity has affected the arts in general and especially illustrations, creating new techniques such as digital art and photography as fast-spreading arts and easy to deal with the present day. The methodology is analytical historical where the researcher chose examples of the pioneers and founders of the art of illustrations in their handling of some of the works of the writer Naguib Mahfouz applying the dimension of the Egyptian identity to his literary novels. Thus, we conclude that the Egyptian identity has an impact on the visual culture hence on the illustrations as art that relied on literary novels and introduced cultural heritage to help protect identity from any external infringements.

PROBLEMATICS OF "RETRO" STYLE AND IDENTITY IN CONTEMPORARY IMAGE AND ILLUSTRATION
The research deals with the concept of (Retro) style in graphic design, especially in contemporary image and illustration. And that is after the success of this style in achieving popularity in the pictograms in publications on a large scale of all kinds and techniques. In this presented research we focus on this “reactionary” trend in art as a special intellectual and artistic style that relied heavily on the concept of human (Nostalgia) for the past, and the possibility of benefiting from that new trend to revive the artistic and visual identity of the culture of each society and choose “Egypt” as a model, as a broader and comprehensive vision than its current marketing and commercial goal, and because it has already surpassed that stage and demonstrated the effectiveness of playing on the sensitive chord related to linking the past with the present, and its success greatly in the (Retro marketing) process. In addition to that, the research deals with some problematic related to the (Retro) style in terms of originality and contemporary in design, the use of the image, the roots of that art, and its sources from the heritage of the past that the designer returns to and his right to be inspired and changed in a contemporary way.

THE USE OF FLAT ILLUSTRATIONS IN WEBSITES AND SMARTPHONES APPLICATIONS’ USER INTERFACE (UI) DESIGN
Smartphones and computers are the most usable communicative tools in modern times. This urged the need to develop software, webpages and mobile applications that work as a mediator between users and devices. This is in addition to user interfaces (UI) that need to be designed to help users while using these websites and mobile applications. In this paper, the researcher reviews the Flat design style and its use in UI design. Then, it studies Flat illustrations that are added to user interfaces to help users imagine things better, enhance the brand identity of the UI and make texts and interactions easier to understand. The researcher then reviewed samples of Flat illustrations done for universal user interfaces. Finally, a practical study was made to examine the importance of using Flat illustrations in mobile app’s UI. Through which the researcher could reach to the final results and conclusions via analysis of outputs.

THE SYMBOL IN THE EGYPTIAN ARTIST’S DRAWINGS “EL SAYED EL KAMMASH”
Drawings are the primary means of expression. This research deals with the concept of drawing and of symbolism. The research is in Egypt, the second half of twentieth century. It follows an analytical historical method based on examining the symbols in the art drawings of " Elsayed el Kammash". The research problem is due to the shortage of comparable studies related to distinguished Egyptian painters in the library; hence, the research objectives are to highlight the Egyptian painting and investigate the Egyptian artistic vision. The author has chosen as example, an Egyptian painter, for his uniqueness in drawing and symbols. Egypt is one of those countries in which a number of artists who have mastered the skill of drawing have emerged, and we find that by looking at the Egyptian character in drawing, there is an important dimension, cultural distinctiveness, that gives it a unique value.

ROLE OF THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE GROUP IN THE AMERICAN PLASTIC MOVEMENT
The research deals with the role of Harlem in the American plastic movement. It sheds light on the movement from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries since the American painters have traditionally dealt with the European Works until the emergence of Hudson River School. Its artists were influenced by Naturalism and subsequently adopted the ideasof American Impressionism. The emergence of the Ashcan school rejected all the above schools and adopted the themes of American daily life; all this has ended with the dominance of modernist artists. With the rise of abstract expressionism, later, the regional movement rose against modernity, on the other hand, Harlem was formed of a large group of artists. Harlem group artists were from African origins and used the African culture, they combined it with modernism; this group has produced many artworks. In this paper the researcher’s interest is the plastic aspect of the movement.

THE ASAM CHURCH CEILING OF ST. NEPOMUK IN MUNICH, GERMANY - ANALYTICAL FIELD STUDY
The Asam Church of St.Nepomuk in Munich is considered one of the most special private churches that was built in Germany in the eighteenth century by the Asam Brothers. The house of Egid Asam overlooks the High Alter of the church that its ceiling was designed and painted by his brother Cosmas Asam that studied previously in the Academy of San Luca in Rome in 1735 for two years. Cosmas Asam excelled in the execution and the design of the ceiling that depicts the life of Saint Nepomuk in thirteen scenes in a form of series in one framework. Saint Nepomuk was drowned in the river by an order from the king of Bohemia Wenceslas in the fourteenth century because he refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional of the king’s wife Sophie. The church is considered a perfect example for the late baroque/Rococo Art in Germany and it shows the influence of the Italian Baroque art on them and their role in spreading it to Germany.

THE ARTISTIC AND HISTORICAL REFERENCES OF THE EUROPEAN STYLE SCULPTURES AT BARON EMPAIN PALACE IN CAIRO: COMPARATIVE AND HISTORICAL FIELD STUDY
This study authenticates both the artistic and historical references of the European style statues at Baron Empain Palace, Cairo, and that are different in their style and materials from other palace’s sculptures of Asian style. The motive to conduct this study was the lack of art and historical references of theses statues; there is no mention of them in any published resources –electronic or printed- on Baron Palace and its contents, neither in Arabic nor in other languages. This study is restricted to the mentioned sculptures. It did not touch upon the Asian style sculptures. The research depends on materials collected from the field. It also relied on some of the historical method and comparative studies techniques. The study resulted in determining definitively the historical and artistic references of these statues. Three recommendations of the conclusion were presented, aiming at the touristic and heritage role of the palace.

FRAMEWORK TO ASSIST IN SELECTING HUMAN CENTRED DESIGN TOOLS AND METHODS
Human Centred Design is a significant approach in design. It increases the value of design as well as helping businesses to overcome the challenges of not meeting user needs. However, the abundance of Human Centred Design tools and the difficulty to discriminate between them have created the urge to develop selection framework for these tools in regard to the design process. In this paper, I present a framework to assist in selecting Human Centred Design tools. I highlight the significance of the Human Centred Design approach. I also explain the theoretical background behind creating the framework. Then I describe the participatory design workshop method I used to support and validate the results of the theoretical background in order to further develop the selection framework. This framework can be adopted in the design field in order to facilitate the process and to support practitioners’ decisions to select suitable tools.

GRAPHIC ART .. FROM “KAMAL AMEEN” TO DIGITAL..!
The artist "Kamal Amin" played a pivotal role in the field of the Egyptian graphic movement, through his quest and his tireless experiments in search of all new in this field, which realized the extent of its expansion in many fields ... Looking forward to digitization! Forty years ago, since he left our world, nicknamed the digital world based on communication technology. This spirit of art is steeped in its Egyptian identity and is seeking all the new... It had a great impact in the development of the scientific curriculum of Graphic art at the Faculty of Fine Arts, where he worked as a professor of art. Just as Kamal Amin produced numerous works of art in the field of engraving and printing, he produced numerous works in the field of visual communication, including press drawings, illustrations, and book covers, all characterized by expressive experimentation, and many national contributions such as the design and implementation of the façade of Luxor train station and Beni- Suef station. Undoubtedly, if Kamal Amin had been in this world, he would have been the first developer son of communication and digitization.
